The Artist The Human

It all started when…

I was reflecting upon the 5 years that I have lived in New York City - when I recalled a memory of the first time my family visited the city in June 2013. We were looking at colleges & somehow my dad, brother & I ended up in the front row of the TODAY Show taping of the band Maroon 5. During commercial breaks, the group’s lead singer, Adam Levine, would talk to the crowd, tell jokes & share some of his personal stories. Later that day, as my family sat eating dinner at a restaurant over on Restaurant Row, my dad piped up & said he really enjoyed the concert. He said he now liked Maroon 5 even more because hearing Adam Levine’s stories cultivated an indelible connection between the art maker & art receiver. Upon thinking of that moment, the idea for my graduate capstone series hit me - The Artist The Human. As humans, we all crave an empathetic connection to another living, breathing human being.

For the last 5 years, attending both undergrad & grad school in the Big Apple, I have heard a countless number of times about the “importance” of being authentic but also the importance of having a social media presence: especially - if you want to land a good job in the entertainment industry. Contradicting ideas - yet we find ourselves being forced to live in this digitally over saturated world.

So where does this leave us? Where does this leave me & my capstone project? Well - hopefully it leads you to watching my official trailer for my new series The Artist The Human & coming back to see the full series when it premieres. I also hope it pushes you to share your own stories & find a deeper sense of understanding for those who are physically around you - not just what they are posting on social media.

I hope you enjoy The Artist The Human as much as I enjoyed creating it.

Xoxo, Lucy
